In 2008, Wolwedans became a Founding Member of The Long Run Initiative (LRI) – a membership organisation of nature-based tourism businesses committed to driving sustainability with the aim of maintaining a healthy and productive planet for posterity. ‘Longrunners’ seek to support, connect and inspire nature-based businesses to implement the highest standards of sustainability by adopting a 4Cs sustainability model: Conservation, Community, Culture and Commerce.

LRI is a growing, global community through which, collectively, over 21 million acres (>8.5 million hectares) of biodiversity are conserved and the lives of 750,000 people are improved.

In 2019, Wolwedans achieved a significant sustainability milestone when we were awarded the Responsible Tourism Award for Accommodation in Namibia, which was presented by Namibia's Minister of Environment, Forestry and Tourism, the Honorable Pohamba Shifeta!

In early 2020, we took yet another big step forward and shifted into 5th gear by introducing an additional ‘C’ – “Consciousness” – to our 4Cs sustainability framework. These 5C’s will now guide Wolwedans on the road ahead.
