conciousness

To most philosophers, the word "consciousness" connotes the relationship between the mind and the world. Typically, this relationship is broken down into three types:

  1. Simple Consciousness: awareness of the body, possessed by many animals;
  2. Self Consciousness: awareness of being aware, possessed only by humans; and
  3. Cosmic Consciousness: awareness of life and the order of the universe, possessed only by humans who are enlightened, which tends towards the spiritual.

In the context of day-to-day life at Wolwedans, Consciousness is “the state of being aware of and responsive to one's surroundings – as an organisation and as individuals, including guests." This applies to what one does and why, and how one lives and engages… It is not such a straightforward concept and is, therefore, possibly the most interesting ‘C’ in the Wolwedans mix.
